An outbreak of fire destroyed the Wynyard Building, in the heart of the city, which was occupied by a number of firms.| The damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. There were many narrow escapes. Three f.remen were entrapped on the third floor and had to be rescued by means of an escape ladder. They were dragged through the window when just on the verge of collapse.—A. and N.Z.
