HARBOUR A GETS BIG WIN OVER GREEN LANE

BREESE’S BIG SCORE When Green Lane opened its in,nings against Harbour Board A last Saturday week, it failed to knock up anything like a substantial score, being dismissed for 107. With the board, however, it was a different tale. Five wickets down for 271 was its position when play was continued on Saturday. Breese, who had gone to the crease as ono of the opening batsmen, play'ed sterling cricket throughput the innings, carrying his bat for 155. His was a pleasing exhibition of bright and versatile cricket that was a treat to watch. Dunning, who was responsible for 52, was unfortunate to be run out when it seemed that he was going to chase Breese for top score. Badeley is a master of solid driving and, opening his shoulders to everything, he compiled 48 when he played a leg ball too late to C. Watts, who accepted. Paxton and Matthews were responsible for some fine strokes all round the wicket and scored 41 and 24 respectively. Paxton had a penchant for boundary hits, and his score was compiled for the most part of fours and sixes. With two men short the Board had only eight wickets to fall, the last one going when the score stood at 372. BATTING COLLAPSE When Green Lane’s turn came to reply it had no mean task before it. The only batsmen to make anything like a stand before the bowling of Dunning, who incidentally took five for 21, were C. Watts, Elliott and Seccombe, who scored 19, 15 and 14 respectively. The remainder of the innings proved to be a “rot” that no one could break, and the last wicket fell with Lane’s score at 95, leaving Harbour Board to score a three-point win by an innings and 170 runs.
