BETTY BALFOUR IS NOT TEMPTED
AMERICAN OFFERS REFUSED Betty Balfour, Britain's -most popular film star, who has received many tempting offers from abroad, including the United States, has decided to devote her energies entirely to British production. She has signed a contract with British International Pictures, which secures her services to them for a period of two years at least. This announcement was made at a luncheon in London by Mr. John Maxwell. chairman of the company. Miss Balfour is at present playing with Syd Chaplin, brother of Charles Chaplin, in the British International film, “A Little Bit of Fluff,” and the first film under her new contract will be “Champagne,” to be directed by Mr. Alfred Hitchcock. Mr. Maxwell announced also that Mr. Arthur Maude, who directed “Poppies of Flanders,” is to make a series of films for the company, the first of which is to be “Toni.” Mr'. Maude is an Englishman who has achieved success in the United States and was awarded the Reisenfeld medal for the best all-round film of the year, i “The Vision,” in 1926,
