“Miss N.Z.” Sends Greetings
Life on ‘Aorangi” “Miss New Zealand’* (Mias Dale Austen) who has since landed at Vancouver, sent a cherry word of greeting to the “New Zealand Picturegoer” from Suva. “The first stage of my great adventure will b-3 over to-morrow, when we reach Suva. Everything has been delightful, except—l hate to confess it — I have missed a couple of meals. “My first pleasant surprise on board the Aorangi was to find a beautiful bouquet of pink and scarlet carnations from the Prime
Minister and Mrs. Coates. They both wished me a happy voyage and success, and I felt honoured by their kindness. Mr. Coates came on board with Mr. Amery’s party and introduced rr\3 to them. Both Mr. and Mrs. Amery have very kindly interested themselves in my welfare.
“Life on board is almost more strenuous than on land. Quite normal people seem to get a dose of the sea monkey gland and behave in the most energetic manner. Before breakfast they are skipping and frisking at deck tennis, or energetically throwing deck quoits. After a hearty breakfast they walk up and down the decks as though a handsome reward awaited the one who did it fastest. “Golf, tennis and quoits take up the day, and dancing and pictures the evening. There is an orchestra on board, so there is dancing every night, and a loud speaker broadcasts the music to the second and third classes as well We are to see our first Aoranpi picture show to-night.
