Lois Fuller, Friend of Queen

Dancer Who Upset Royal Tour of America QUEEN MARIE’S RETURN Lois Fuller, the dancer, who died recently in Paris, is said to have been the principal cause of Queen Marie of Rumania's precipitate return from America last year. When Queen Marie’s tour of America was upset by quarrels, it was said that an attractive actress and dancer who had figured at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, and in Paris and London theatres, was behind much of the bickering. She was Lois Fuller, who had made friends with the Queen years before, and who had joined her court for the American tour. There were rumours of disagreements as the Royal party travelled across America, and these broke into an open scene at Portland, where Mr. Sam Hill, an old friend of the Queen, was said to have threatened to “slap the face” of Colonel'Washburn, who was in charge of arrangements. Then Lois Fuller came into the limelight as one of the causes of the dissension in the party, and left the Royal train before the tour ended. Miss Fuller had had a romantic stage career. She made her debut when 2jJ, and subsequently played with American touring companies. She appeared in New York, "oured the West Indies, and went to London. A career as a ballet dancer in London, New York and Paris followed. Finally she became a producer. One of her productions was “Le Lys de Vie,” written by Queen Marie. She published two volumes of memoirs.
