Mangahao Fails to Supply Enough Power
WATER SHORTAGE IN DAM LOCAL PLANTS CALLED IN (From Our Resident Reporter .) WELLINGTON, To-day. On account of the light rainfall during recent weeks, the supply of water at the Mangahao dam has fallen to a great extent, and for some days the Government supply for the big scheme has been supplemented by the local plants throughout the district. An explanation of the shortage is given by the chief electrical engineer to the Public Works Department, Mr. F. M. Kissel, who said the new dam at Mangahao was not finished in time to be filled with water from the seasonal rains before th© dry spell set in. The dam was only partly filled, but as soon as rain came the water would probably rise to the top level and the present difficulty would not recur. This shortage at Mangahao has reflected upon the city, and all plants within the city limits are working at full capacity in an endeavour to supply the power.
