SCHOOL CHILDREN TOUR

DILIGENCE REWARDED MOTOR COMPANY’S GENEROSITY A unique educational motor tour was begun on Tuesday by a party of. nine schoolchildren from schools in or around Te Puke, near Tauranga, in the charge of a teacher. In five days the party will travel through most places of interest in the Waikato and will visit Auckland and its marine suburbs, returning to Te Puke on Saturday evening. A competition has been in progress all the past school year to determine the personnel of the party. A total of 100 marks was awarded for attendance, each half day’s absence deducting one mark from the total. A possible of 100 marks was also awarded on the results of the annual examinations. Scholars gaining the highest aggregate marks in the various standards were as follow: Te Puke High School, W. Hirdegan; Te Puke primary school, Inez Cooney (Standard VI.), Graham Bennett (5), Rosie Bradford (3 and 4) and Bernice Cottrell (1 and 2); Paengaroa School, W. Mundt (6), L. Smith and F. Williams (Standards I. to V.); and Pongakawa School, Pax Hickson. ITINERARY OF TOUR The party left early on Tuesday morning. They visited Whakarewarewa, Ngongotaha Mountain, Fairy Springs, Arapuni and Hora Hora and stayed for the night at Cambridge. Yesterday they visited the Waitomo Caves. Leaving Hamilton this morning they arrived in Auckland a few hours later. This afternoon they are visiting the Art Gallery, Museum and Albert Park. They will climb Mount Eden to-mor-row morning, then cross the harbour to Devonport and Takapuna. The afternoon will be spent at the Zoo, and in a tour through the city. Friday evening is free. Leaving early on Saturday morning they will cross the Hauraki Plains, passing through Waihi and Tauranga to reach home again about 5 p.m. This interesting and educational trip is being made at the expense of Burbery’s Motors, and is entirely free of charge to the prize-winners.
