PACIFIC CABLE BOARD

POSITION OF CHAIRMAN RATIFICATION DEFERRED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Wednesday. The Pacific Cable Board intends to defer the ratification of the appointment as chairman of Sir James Cooper, the deputy-chairman of Bawra, until after the wireless conference, which begins on January 16, at which Mr. Maurice I-leadlam, the acting-chair-man, will represent the board. The board says the reason for the selection of Sir James Cooper is that he is able to spare time to tour Australia, New Zealand and Canada, to investigate cable operations, which Mr. Headlam as Permanent Secretary to the National Debt Commissioners is precluded from doing. It is officially stated that Sir John Denison-Pender, on behalf of the Eastern Extension Cable Company, and Sir Gilbert Garnsey, on behalf of the Marconi Company, have been asked to cooperate in making a joint report for submission to their respective boards regarding a possible arrangement of their joint interests. —A. and N.Z.-Sun. Sir John Denison-Pender is chairman of the Eastern and its associate cable companies, and a director of the P. and O. Company. Sir Gilbert Garnsey is a member of the well-known firm of accountants, Price, Waterhouse and Company. He recently reported on the affairs of the Marconi Company prior to its reconstruction.
