QUALIFIED TO JUDGE
YVTHILE watching several trot- ** ting horses going along Manukau Road this morning, “Abaydos” was made aware of the presence of an interested stranger by the remark, “Look at that horse; isn’t he a beauty?” The bystander continued his favourable criticism of the horse for some little time, pointing out all the excellent qualities of the animal. “What is it?” at last he asked, and on being informed that it was the Austral ian - bred Metal, who has just returned from a successful season at the stud in the Waikato, remarked: “I have seen a lot of the best of them in my time and handled a lot of them too, and if that fel'ow isn’t a champion, then I must be getting a bad judge.” Further inquiries elicited the fact that the enthusiast was an ex-South-ern owner-trainer, who won the first Wanganui Cup with Proud Child.
