Bush's estimates were accepted had in view is .Enable balance between the ded tor a lavish supply of water, n In the driest season, and a reasffir.nd bearable capital expenditure. Th, main point of disagreement J«en the committee and Mr. nuih—and It Is also largely a disfareement between the Water £shn and the Work, Com„lttet_concern# the hastening of th« work to try and bring the upMr Hula dam Into use by next Laitr, thus supplying four and i-hslf million gallons daily, as against ths one or one and a-half millions expected to be available merely by the completion of the pips line, which will tap running w«t«r supplies.
The next important question centres round the next work to be undertaken, irtether It is to be on the pumping ichemes at Lower Hula and Lower Xihotnpu, or either of them, of the Huuua ranges scheme. The commission reported against Lower Huia, but appeared to be favourably disposed toward Lower Nihotupu. GRAVITATION FAVOURED It Is believed that a body of opinion in the City Council is more inclined to postpone the pumping schemes, and to go to the Mangatawhiri and Mangating! streams in the Hunua ranges. In the meantime surveys are being side of the Hunua areas, and the committee will visit them before the uit council meeting, so that early in the year the whole question should reach the full council for consideration.
