“ Unfinished” Must Stay So

Leading German dOmposers and musical directors are excited over an announcement to the effect that they would serve on a committee of judges which is to select the best manuscript completing Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony.” “We protest against the misuse of our names,” declare Professors Guido Adler, Max Friedlander, Siegmund von Hausegger, Eusebius Mandycewski, Ilans Pfitzner, Frank Schalk and Max von Schillings. “All we did was to agree to serve on an honorary committee for arranging an international Schubert centenary celebration. But we distinctly declined to lend our names to the contest for completing the symphony , as roe regard such competition as inartistic.”
