A PLUCKY GIRL

TWO BOYS RESCUED A plucky rescue was effected of two little boys, aged six and eight years respectively, who were bathing in the Whakatane River on Sunday. Their mother, Mrs. Garnett, was watching them when they suddenly got into deep water and disappeared. The distracted woman called for help and then fainted. In response to the call two girls. Misses Alma Bush and Mavis Cocks’ who were sunbathing after a swim further down the river, hurried to the rescue. Miss Bush dived into the river and brought up one bov, and handed him over to Miss Cocks. Miss Bush then looked round and saw the head of the other boy below the surface of the water. She swam tc the spot, grasped the drowning lad and i brought him safely to land.
