Plane Seen at Paekakariki
MEN STAND BY STORY WINGS AND TAIL VISIBLE (Special to THE SUX.) WELLINGTON, To-day. The Post Office Wireless Station is unable to communicate with the Kai,v^£r a ’ t>ut hop® 3 to get through later. ® story of the two men who reported. having seen the airplane over Paekakariki Hill is being investigated. It is stated that Messrs. Pepperell and Harrison, the latter is an enginedriver whose sight should be relied upon, watched the machine over Paekakariki Bay until it disappeared behind a point at Pukerua Bay. They estimated that it was flying 300 fee't up at a high speed. One thought it was four or five miles distant, having emerged from a cloud bank. Other witnesses say the cloud bank was twelve miles away. Tim men said that they recognised the machine as a monoplane from their experience in the war. The landmg carriage, wings and tail were plainly discernable.
