SOUTHERN MARKETS
CHRISTCHURCH QUIET Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. There is little life in the grain and produce trade. Merchants are apparently waiting until the new crop is nearer the delivery stage. Peas have slackened a little further in price, and there was some business to-day at 6s 9d, f.0.b., s.i. Wheat is firm, although buyers are few. Tuscan is quoted at 5s 8d on trucks, or the equivalent of 5s lid, f.0.b., s.i. The improved sunshine of the last week or so should increase the yield. Oats are unchanged from previous quotations. A few early crops near the city, where the plantations harbour the small birds, have been cut. Generally the straw growth has bsen heavy, but the crops Ijave not filled very well. The storm of New Y'ear week has laid a good deal of heavy crop. Cocksfoot is firm at llld for standard seed. The new season’s harvest on the peninsula is expected to be fully up to the average and cutting will probably commence in a week or 10 days.
