SOMERVILLE SHIELD
EIGHT-OAR RACING WEST END CREW CHOSEN In Saturday’s Somerville Shield race, between Waitemata and West End, the latter club will be represented by the following crew: J. R. Skinner (str.), W. N. Bright (7), S. Hadley (6), O. Felton (5), G. Bloxham (4), G. Bowling (3), G. Conway (2), V. M. Farlane (bow). Emergencies: J. Stratton, L. Strange, R. Woodside. The crew chosen looks formidable through weight alone. Skinner and Bright have rowed a lot together, and combined excellently in crack West End crews a few seasons back. With Hadley, Felton and Bloxham, th© stroke and seven will complete a weighty group. Hadley, a forward for the 1928 All Blacks, is a proficient oarsman. The race will probably be rowed over a three-mile course, from Orakei to the neighbourhood of the eastern tide deflector.
