DHARLES BARBER, an American mine manager, who was v kidnapped on December 17 by bandits, has arrived here bruised and blood-stained. He tells a thrilling story of his escape last Wednesday. He heard his guards discussing *his proposed execution for Friday unless a ransom of £3,000 was paid. He leaped upon the guards armed with a steel r •!, and knocked out two. The third seized his rod, but Barber secured a beer bottle, with which, in a desperate struggle, he killed the remaining two. He then returned to the two first assailants, finished them, and escaped to the bush, where he spent three days wandering, in a terrible plight.—Sun.
