“I WILL NOT MARRY”
BERGER’S NEW FILM Ludwig Berger, the noted German motion picture director, who attracted attention with his production, “The Waltz Dream,” has begun a. long term contract with Fox Films. Berger, who is known in Europe as a stage producer and musical genius, being classed with Max Reinhardt for his dramatic work, was signed by Winfield Sheehan, vice-president of Fox Films, when Mr. Sheehan was abroad last year. The German director’s first picture for Fox Films will be “I Will Not Marry,” adapted from an Hungarian story by Bela Szens. It is a comedydrama and concerns the experiences of the members of a bachelors’ club. Berger’s work in pictures has been distinguished by its comedy vein. Lois Moran will have the feminine lead in “I Will Not Marry.” Mr. Berger will make a choice of the male lead within a few days, after he has looked over the field of available actors and conferred with Mr. Sheehan. “I Will Not Marry” will be Mr. Berger’s first picture made in the United States. He is mentioned as the possible director of “The Dollar Princess,” Leo Fall’s celebrated operetta, the motion picture rights to which have been obtained by Fox Films. Herman Bing, who was assistant director to F. W. Murnau during the making of “Sunrise,” will act in the same capacity for Mr. Berger, Herman Bamberger, Berger’s brother, who accompanied him from Europe, is the director’s art technician. Fay Wray, the young actress who played opposite Emil Jannings in his forthcoming • The Street of Sin,” has been assigned as the feminine lead in Gary Cooper’s new war picture, ' The Legion of the Condemned.” The picture will be a sequel to Paramount’s successful air picture, “Wings.”
