“WEDDING MARCH”

MANY “FREAK SHOTS” A cursory glance at the great Von Stroheim “set” while some of the biggest scenes for “The Wedding March” were being made, at first is inclined to convey the impression of a lumber yard in an advanced state of disorder. The exigencies of production demanded the construction of 22 movable “parallels”—which, it may be explained, are large square platforms of varying height for the use of director and cameramen. By placing the camera on these parallels, it was possible to photograph a scene from any desired height, to give the impression of viewing the action from horseback, from a window, or from any elevation desired. Von Stroheim himself was sometimes seen on the parallels, and sometimes in front of them, since he ■was both directing “The Wedding March” and playing the star role of Prince Nicki.
