TEST OF REO FLYING CLOUD
10,000 MILES NON-STOP RUN
Surpassing even the staunchness of its famous namesake, “Flying Cloud,” the finest, fastest clipper shifc that ever sailed, a Reo “Flying Oloud” recently completed a 10,000-mile American non-stop run with out a single mechanical adjustment. The Flying Cloud, chosen at random from a dealer’s stock and piloted by two drivers who drove and slept alternately, traversed every State and national road in Indiana. Well-paved roads and level stretches were purposely avoided, according to Reo officials, in order to subject the car to the most severe tests for endurance,* reliability and comfort. No attempt was made to establish a record for speed. During the long test the Flying Cloud was stopped only twice, each time to repair a puncture; but the engine was not stopped during the entire run Petrol, oil and air were taken “on the run,” and when traffic signals or trains intervened, the car was run forward and backward until the road was clear again.
While no effort was made to establish a record for petrol consumption, a careful check revealed that the car throughout averaged 15 miles to the gallon.
