SILVER WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY AT MANUNUI MR. AND MRS. J. SPENCE Two popular Manunui residents# in tli© persons of Mr. and Mrs. J. Spence, celebrated their silver wedding a few days ago, when a large party of friends gathered to do them homage on the 25tli anniversary of their wedding da\. The marriage of Mr. James Spence and Miss Agnes Willock Hunter took place at the Gordon Road Presbyterian Church, Newcastle-on-Tyne, on Januarv 1, 1903, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. John Bell, M.A. Mrs. S. A. Lees, of Manunui, a sister of Mis. Spence, was bridesmaid at the wedding, and Mrs. Lees and -Mrs. Curran (another sister) were present at the silver anniversary. . The Rev. J. E. Ward, who presided, spoke eloquently of the worth of Mr and Mrs. Spence as citizens and friends, and mentioned that out of 25 years of wedded life, 16 had been spent in Manunui. Rev. J. E. Ward proposed the health of the “Silver Wedding Bride and Bridegroom,” which was fittingly honoured. “The Bridesmaid” was proposed. by Mi-. Spence, and “The Ladies.” bv Mr. S. Grant. Numerous congra t lations and gifts were received, testifying to the popularity of Mr. and Mrs. Spence.
