MINING NEWS

NEW WAIOTAHI. —The mine manager reports for the week ended January 7:— “Work in the mine was resumed on the 4th inst. Some of the timbers have been renewed and the level cleaned up, and a start made in the face going hillward for the Waiotahi-Cambria reef.”

MOANATAIARI.—The manager reports: The winze on the footwali leader from the seaward end has been sunk three feet, a total of 13 feet. The reef here averages 15 inches wide, and still looks well, carrying nice mineral blende and silica. Colours and dabs of gold were seen in the stone. As the mine started work only last Wednesday after the holidays, a good deal of cleaning had to be done before sinking could be started.
