FINE FEATS IN OLYMPIC TRIALS NEW RECORDS IN AUSTRALIA By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, Saturday.’ The Australian National Games carnival held preliminary to choosing Olympic Games representatives, was commenced at the Manly Oval to-day. All the leading Australian athletes are competing. Carlton, who landed from the New Zealand steamer only this morning, won the 100 metres race in llsec. In the running high jump, L. Mason, Victoria, created a new State record, clearing 6ft 2in, defeating Davidson, the Australian and New Zealand titleholder. Other winners were:—llo metres hurdles, A. Watson, Victoria, 16sec; throwing the Ravelin, O. Millgate, New South Wales 146 ft 3in; 200 metres, A. Walker, New South Wales, 22 2-5 sec; 1,500 metres, J. Marlin, New South Wales, 4min 20 2-ssec; 800 metres, C. Stuart, New South Wales, 2min 6sec; running broad jump, C. Ebert, New South Wales, 22ft; hop, step and jump, E. Ebert, 45ft lin defeating Winter, holder of the world’s record, who was out of form, by one inch. In the women’s events. Miss Winter won the running high jump, clearing 4ft 7in, establishing a State record. Miss E. Robinson won the 100 metres in 13 l-ssec. In the cycling 1,000 metres trial, J. Standen, New South Wales, won in lmin 16 2-ssec; one mile junior championship of Australia, L. Standen, 2min 17sec; one mile senior championship, D. Gray and R. W. Lamb, 2min 13sec, J. Standen finishing first but being disqualified owing to alleged interference with Gray; senior five miles championship, J. Standen. 12min 24 2-ssec. —A. and N.Z.
