THE MAUI POM ARE.—The Maui Pornare was recently launched from the Dublin Dockyard, to the order of the New Zealand Government for use in the Pacific fruit trade. The new vessel is 210 feet long, with a beam of 35 feet, and a depth to the upper deck of 16 feet, and has in all accommodation for 26 passengers. She is fitted with two 600 b.h.p. Fetter six-cylinder oil engines, with cylinders 16£in in diameter and a piston stroke of ISin. The speed of revolution is 250 r.p.m. to 270 r.p.m. Electric power is supplied from two 90 h.p. Fetter engines, driving 55 kw. dynamos at 300 r.p.m., and there is an 18-21 h.p. Fetter engine, running at 450 r.p.m., coupled to an air compressor operating at 3001 b per square inch. The cargo holds are insulated for the carriage of fruit cargo. A double bottom extends fore and aft and is fitted for the carriage of oil fuel. The dining-room has seating accommodation for 30 people. All deck gear is electrical, including the windlass and four Clarke, Chapman winches, as well as a capstan, whilst the steering gear is of the Donkin-Scott electroliydraulic type.
