Y.W.C.A. CONFERENCE

AIMS OF THE ASSOCIATION At the second session of the annual conference of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, now being held at the Wesley College, Paerata, the basis, aims and function of the world’s association was discussed.. Mrs. Sutherland Ross reported on her visit to the world’s committee, in May last, at which she gave a special report on New Zealand work. Miss Begg spoke on the Pan Pacific Conference being held in Honolulu in August, and the importance of securing a good delegation from the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand. Board and committee members met to discuss “The Relation of the Board with Committees.” Mrs. H. D. Bennett occupied the chair, and speakers were Mrs. Dickinson of Auckland, and Miss Batt, general secretary of Dunedin. The younger members discussed the “Problem of Club Programme for Senior Girls.” Mrs. O. Burton occupied the chair and the discussion was opened by Miss Pym. girls’ work secretary, of Christchurch. The general discussion hour was opened by Mrs. Kenner of Auckland, followed by Miss Begg, general secretary of Auckland, when the subject under discussion was “The Relationship of the Association with the Church.” Mrs. Kenner emphasised the need of worship in every human being, and said the association was the connecting link between the girl and the church. Miss Begg. in an illuminating talk, stressed the need of greater co-opera-tion between the association and the church with a continual interchange of thought and leadership. Any social organisation depended not only on its policy and programme, but on its relationship with other organisations. With this end in view she urged all associations to attempt some really constructive work which would result in closer understanding and mutual benefit. On Saturday afternoon an enjoyable picnic to Pukekohe Bush was held, and in the evening reports were read from New Plymouth and Wellington, which showed good progress and outreaching activities auguring well for the coming fe year.
