EVENING
The drowsy home-returning bees pass by with honied loads, Shy snails uncurl a silver track along the dewy roads; Far, farther yet the shadows fall across the stately wheat. Along the hedge a field mouse moves on hesitating feet. Hushed is the hammer at the forge, its echoes now are -still; A purple haze unfolds to wrap the shoulders of the hill; Soon fairy cavalcades will troop to riot on the lawn Until the stars’ soft brilliance melts in rosy lights of dawn.
