Passenger Falls in Boarding Ferry
JAW AND SHIN DAMAGED A last-minute passenger for one of the harbour ferries discovered on Wednesday afternoon that great haste frequently brings with it serious consequences. He dashed on to the wharf at Devonport just as the vehicular ferry was pulling out, and, as it was the only transport to the city at that moment, he decided to risk it. All would have been well, but the man slipped on the iron on the edge of the wharf. As he fell, his shin was cut deep to the bone, and his chin struck the edge of the boat, damaging his jaw severely. He would have collapsed backward into the water but for the willing hands on the ferry, and he was dragged on board. Medical attention was given him there and then, and his wounds bandaged. Besides his damaged jaw and shin, the passenger ruined a new light summer suit. He now believes it wise •to wait for the next boat to the city.
