Knee-Breeches of Gold Brocade
! I EVE’S REVIVAL OF THE FAIRY PRINCE
A STRANGE FASHION
The newest of the new frocks is a sore of mixture of the prince in the Fairy Tale and the Beggarman’s Kirtie. •From the prince we get the golden breeches and heavy gold embroidery on sleeves and collar, from the beggarman the simple, straight jumper that forms the rest of the frock. Perhaps redingote would express the garment better than jumper, for it is cut semi-fitting rather in the manner of a riding-coat. This reaches to the knees, is split open at the side, and shows a magnificent pair of gold brocaded and embroidered knee breeches. The coat is made of black face cloth, buttoned down the front, and having for its only ornament some gorgeous gold embroidery on the colla'r and sleeves. | This is a very jaunty costume, especially when it is accompanied by the pale silk stockings and shoes with jewelled buckles that one generally associates with the prince in the fairy tale.
