Bowling, Bissett took three wickets for 99, Morkel none for 60, Nupen one for 90, Vincent three for 39, Promnitz three for 56. South Africa, in its second innings, made 224—Taylor, run out, 71; Commaille, c Astill, b Hammond, 47; Cotterall, b Astill, 10* Cameron, b Hammond, 19; Morkel, c Holmes, b Astill, 23; Deane, c Hammond, b Freeman, 4; Palm, c Hammond, b Freeman, 13; Vincent, c Hammond, b Freeman, 11; Nupen, b Astill, 1; Bissett, not out, 11; Promnitz, b Pebbles, 2; extras, 12. Bowling, Hammond took two wickets for 50, Wyatt none for 5, Freeman three for 66; Astill three for 48, Peebles one* for 26, Stevens none for 17. The weather was fine and the attendance small. The wicket and outfield were slow.
The balance of the Englishmen were dismissed in 21 minutes. Wyatt played strenuous cricket, but was lucky. He contributed 58 of the 68 added by the two last wickets. Geary was suffering from elbow trouble, and did not play, thus weakening the attack. South Africa required 312 runs, with 275 minutes to do it.
