STILL IN THE FIRST FLIGHT

“It was too good for me—that’s all,” was Jack Mills’s rueful, but cheerful rejoinder when he reached

the stand at Eden Park on Tuesday after being clean bowled by Dick T orrance, the Otago lefthand player, after as nice an innings as ever he has played. The veteran Dunedin trundler

had pegged away with his implacable length for nearly three hours against Bowley and Mills, and he well deserved the honour of capturing both their wickets in the end. Dick Torrance was a power in the land before some of our younger representative cricketers were born, and he played for Otago against Auckland as long ago as 1908. Still in the first flight, his four for 55 in Auckland's first innings was one of the best performances of the match.
