BURGLARS IN THEATRE

FEW SHILLINGS TAKEN SAFE LEFT INTACT (Special to THE SUN.; CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. Burglars broke into the recentlyrenovated Opera House in Tuam Street last night, but obtained only a few shillings. They endeavoured to force open an exit door opening into the right-of-way on the west side of the building, but the lock baffled them. Attention was then given to a steel-framed window, through which entrance was effected. The intruders forced the door of the office Df the manager, Mr. Ray Fuller, and the office was ransacked but apparently only a few shillings left in a drawer were taken. The safe was rolled on to its side but remained intact. A watch left hanging in the operator's room was not taken.
