Forbes Tocher, who at considerable personal risk acted as intermediary in the negotiation for the release of Captain Lawlor from Chinese pirates, has been made a commander of the Order of the British Empire. Mr. Tocher, who is a missionary of the Church of Scotland, served in the war and gained the Military Cross. — A. and N.Z.
