BATSMEN DIG IN
QUEENSLAND MAKES 590 MATCH WITH N.S.W. By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, Wednesday. In the Sheffield Shield match, in which the home si.de made 639, and Queensland 276 in the first innings, the visitors took their second innings score of 375 for four wickets to 590 to-day (Higgins 179, O’Connor 32, Rowe 147, Oxenham 50, Gough 42). McNamee took tw r o wickets for 110, Morgan two for 95 and Bradman two for 41. New South Wales had lost one wicket for four runs when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good, but late in the afternoon rain began to fall. The batsmen dug themselves in and played very carefully, in order to avoid the innings defeat. When that danger was removed the cricket brightened, and the score mounted fairly fast, in spite of a great number of changes in the bowling. Rowe played a sound and careful innings, but an easy chance of stumping him when h© had made 54 was missed by Love. —A. and N.Z.
