“ROSE MARIE”
CAPACITY HOUSES NIGHTLY New Zealand has been extremely fortunate in seeing Miss Harriet Bennet, in the title role of “Rose Marie,” now being played to capacity houses at His Majesty’s Theatre. The little American actress secured a strong hold on the affection of her Australian audiences, and after Miss Bennet’s experience in Auckland, there is not the slightest doubt that she will repeat this, experience throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand. “Rose Marie” still holds its charm, despite the fact that the music was hackneyed months ago. The actual presence of Miss Bennet and the company in our midst has given us a fresh inclination toward, all the old favourites. The company is extremely well balanced in its principals, strangely enough it is the ballet which scores the sensation of the show. The famous Totem Ballet is still without doubt “Rose Marie’s” most spectacular offering. Frederic Bentley, Stephanie Deste, Yvonne Banvard, Lou Vernon, Noel Allen and Reginald Handy all give admirable support throughout the production of “Rose Marie.” The musical comedy each night draws a full house, and there is every indication that “Rose Marie” will establish a new Auckland record for the J.C. Williamson firm. There will be a matinee performance this afternoon.
