ROTORUA CARNIVAL

GAIETY PREVAILS There were many decorated motorcars and lorries in the New Year’s Eve festivities at Rotorua; also many competitors in fancy costume. The attendance was estimated at several thousands. There was community singing, with the Ponsonby Boys’ Band at the head of the procession. Prizes were awarded as follow: Original costume (rooster), Mrs Greenland: comic costume (American tourists), Messrs. Harford, R. Thomas; poster costume, Big Tree and Plume, fancy dress (Parisians), Mr. L. Burns and Mrs. Baildon; hotel display equal, 1; D. Fowkes and D. Fowkes, 2; (League of Nations), Empire; Geyser Hotel (model pa), h.c.; motor-lorries (gondola), King Street Hospital; decorated motor-car, Mr. Lamb, Wellington.
