GOOD RECOVERY
QUEENSLAND’S FOLLOW-ON SYDNEY, Tuesday. The Sheffield Shield match was continued to-day. Against the home side’s score of 436, Queensland, in the first innings, made 276,(Lister 82, Nothling 74, Gregory two for 63, Phillips four for 26). Queensland followed on, and when stumps were drawn had four wickets down for 375 (Bensted 38, Higgins not out 174, Thomson 68, Rowe not out 30). The weather was fine and the wicket good. Lister and Nothling batted cautiously and scored slowly against frequent changes of bowling, until Phillips went on, when wickets fell rapidly. In the second innings Queensland made a much better opening, although runs continued to come slowly. The batsmen. however, showed great confidence. Thompson played a careful innings. Higgins, in partnership with Rowe, livened the rate of scoring. He was never troubled by the changes in the bowling and made many fine shots, but gave no chances.—A. and N.Z.
