SAILORS ENTERTAINED

CONCERT AND TEA Sailors in port were tendered a tea and concert in the Mission Hall, Lower Albert Street, last evening, by the Auckland branch of the British Sailors’ Society, a successful function concluding the Christmas and New Year festivities. Mr. T. Clark, chairman of the Board of Management, presided. A vocal and instrumental programme contributed by Mesdames Hobday and Shaw, and Messrs. McElwain and Shaw, was much appreciated. A pleasing note was struck when every sailor was presented with a : “diddy bag” well stocked with stationery. literature and mending outfit. This was made possible by the gen- | erosity of the ladies of the various i city churches.

■ On Boxing Day the men were taken jon an outing to Henderson, where i sports and games were held.
