YACHT CAPSIZES

RESCUE IN HARBOUR MEN’S PRECARIOUS PLIGHT Five Northcote boatmen ended their holiday trip off Devonport late on Saturday evening when their 18ft yacht overturned, leaving the men to cling to the keel of the boat. A passer-by on King’s Parade, Devonport, noticed their plight and ran to Mr. M. Garnaut, who lives close by, for assistance. A motor-car was requisitioned and in a few minutes Mr. Garnaut had his launch Idaho under way, but when he reached the overturned boat his benzine gave out. Four men were rescued and Mr. Garnaut worked his launch into a place where he could get ashore for benzine. He then discovered that one of the Northcote men was still adrift with the capsized boat. The man was later picked up and the 18-footer taken in tow. The only serious damage was the breaking of the top mast.
