TAKANINI CRICKET CLUB

ANNUAL NOVELTY DANCE The residents of Takanini, together with a large number of visitors from the surrounding districts, welcomed the New Year in a very decisive manner on Saturday evening in the Takanini Parish Hall, at the annual novelty dance of the cricket club. The hall had been very lavishly decorated with a large number of coloured balloons, and streamers added, to which were brilliantly-clad paper dolls and clumps of artificial flowers, making a gay setting for the happy gathering which thronged th© hall. Dancing was carried out to the strains of Ballard’s Orchestra, and a couple of extras were supplied by Mesdames Collings and Bannister. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. W. Roberts. During the evening a number of competitions were held, when the following enthusiasts proved victorious: Jazz competitions, Miss Watson and M.r. Innes, Miss H. Smith and Mr. W. Shepherd, Miss P. Quelch and Mr. N. Bennett; spot waltzes, Mr. E. Roberts and Mrs. Roberts, Mesdames Glayton and Keetch; Monte Carlo waltz, Miss Nancy Dempsey and Mr. S. James. Dancing was continued till midnight, when 1928 was welcomed with “Auld Lang Syne,” after which a dainty supper was served by the members of the women’s committee.
