“HELD BY THE LAW” A real all-star cast, with at least four of the prominent players actually having been starred either on stage or screen, was assembled by Universal Pictures Corporation for the various roles in “Held By the Law,” the feature which is now pleasing capacity audiences at the Theatre Royal, Kingsland. Johnnie Walker, who plays the masculine lead in the production, has oeen prominent for more than ten years on both stage and screen. He starred in “Over the Hill,” one of the most popular and successful pictures ever made. Ralph Lewis, who is universally regarded as one of the finest character actors on the screen, is one of the very few actors who has been starred even though he was not a leadingman. Emory Johnson produced a series of highly popular features with Lewis in the starring roles. Marguerite de la Motte, who started her professional career as a dancer, has headed the casts of many big, allstar productions, and has played opposite some of the screen’s biggest stars as well. Warner Brothers have announced plans for the production of “Tenderloin.” a story of the underworld, which will be made with Dolores Costello as its star. This story will furnish Miss Costello with a role totally different from anything she has essayed before. Work on it will start as soon as she completes “Glorious Betsy.” a story of the Napoleonic era, now being made. To get the correct atmosphere for her new five-and-ten-cent store picture, “My Best Girl." Mary Pickford took a job as a sales girl in a big Los Angeles “nickle and dime” store shortly before beginning work on the production. Although she had several narrow escapes from being recognised, no one definitely identified her as the famous star during the affair. Her experience, she says, was of great value in making the film realistic. "My Best Girl” will be released in Auckland j at an early date. i
