EMPIRE
“CAPTAIN SALVATION” “Captain Salvation” is a saga of adventure now showing at the Empire Theatre. It is a story of strong men, of tremendous emotions and amazingadventure. Adapted from the novel by Frederick William Wallace, it has been staged largely on boa'd a ship on the high seas; an actual sea voyage having been made in an old-time clipper ship for this purpose. Lars Hanson, t*~ ~ * M—actor, who scored “The Scarlet Let ter” and “Flesl and the Devil,’ gives an intensely interesting characterisation as th< hero, a divinit: student who for sakes the pulpi for the sea. Ernest Torrenc contributes a mas terly portrayal o the brutal se* captain, whi laughs when mei go through to: ture; gloating at tl „ his ship. Marceline Day plays the part of Lars Hanson's sweetheart with charm and Pauline Starke in the role of “Hess Morgan,” a human derelict, makes her a vivid and glowing personality. George Fawcett gives a splendid performance as an old sailor, and Sam de Grasse plays well. “The Belle of Broadway,*’ starring Betty Compson, is also being shown.
