TO-DAY’S PLAY DAVIES TOP IN FIFTH ROUND Press Association. Details of play in the fifth round are as follow: Neville v. Fisher (Petroff Defence). — In a very even game Neville was forced to give up his knight for two pawns, leaving Fisher with two pawns, leaving Fisher with two bishops and three pawns against one bishop and four pawns. Fisher played accurately in the end of the game, and won. Davies v. Severne.—On resuming, Davies made full use of his open king and knight file-, with two rooks, bearing down on Severne's castle and king side of the position. Severne became pressed for a time, and allowed Davies to force a mate with a rook and sacrifice. Kelling v. Severne. —This ganje was adjourned from the second round, Helling having three pawns up in the end of the game. Several/more moves were made, and the game adjourned again, with very little alteration. The position of the players at the end of the fifth round was: Davies, won 5, and lost 0; Kelling. won 41 and lost £; Friberg, won 3 and lost 1; McDermid, won 3 and lost 2; Severne, won 2£ and lost 21; Neville, won 21 and lost 24; Fisher, won I and lost 3; Fairburn, won 1 and lost 4; Summers, won 1 and lost 4; Joyce, won 4, and lost 44. Friberg and Fisher still have to play.
