SHOPS OPEN LATE TO-NIGHT HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS To-night is the New Year’s Eve for the shops, which will not close their doors until 10 p.m. They will be open to-morrow morning until 12.15 p.m. to give the last opportunity to the housewives, until “business as usual” on Wednesday. Hogmanay will be celebrated with splendid open-handedness the Scots on Saturday night, but lAnday will also be a New Year’s Day holiday. Racing will be the main attraction during the holidays. There will trots at Alexandra Park to-morrow and on Monday, and on Tuesday crowds will flock to Ellerslie. The Plunket Shield cricket match, Otago versus Auckland, will begin at Eden Park to-morrow, and it may extend over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. “Rose Marie” is the main theatrical attraction, with the Australian Sunbeams in second place. The Balclutha Boys’ Band will give outdoor concerts. There is to be an exciting fireworks display at Alexandra Park on Monday evening. The Whangarei regatta will be held on Monday. Cabarets will be popular places on New Year’s Eve.
