RUSSELL BOWLERS

VISIT KAIKOHE A party of bowlers from the Russell Bowling Club played a match with Kaikohe at Kaikohe for the Buxton shield on December 26 and 27. Russell won the match. The president of the Kaikohe Club extended a hearty welcome to the visitors who, during their stay, made many friends among the residents. Results of the play were as follow: SECTION A First Round.— Kawakawa beat Kaikohe A, Kaikohe B beat Kaitaia A. Second Round. —Kawakawa beat Kaitaia A, Kaikohe B beat Kaikohe A. Third Round. —Kawakawa beat Kaikohe B, Kaikohe A beat Kaitaia A. Kawakawa won the section. SECTION B First Round. —Russell beat Kaikohe C, Kaikohe D beat Kaitaia. B. Second Round. —Russell beat Kaikohe D, Kaikohe C beat Kaitaia B. Third Round. —Russell beat Kaitaia B,* Kaikohe D beat Kaikohe C. Russell won the section. Final.— Russell, 20, beat Kawakawa, 15. Russell scored a popular win, due in the main to steady play by the team, coupled with good generalship. The shield was presented by Mr. T Buxton, founder of the Kaikohe Bowling Club, for competition among clubs in the Bay of Islands electorate. The tournament was admirably conducted The clubs represented were:—Kaitaia, two teams; Kaikohe, four teams Russell, one team; Kawakawa, one team.
