BIG FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Both old and young folks are eagerly anticipating the large display of fireworks to be given on Alexandra Park on Monday evening next. Such an attraction should make an appropriate conclusion to the holiday and a pleasing spectacle to mark the commencement of another year. The programme for the occasion will contain many novelties in fire and serve to reveal to what a high degree the pyrotechnist's skill has reached. It will be a whole programme display, commencing at 8.40. Prior to that hour, a musical programme will be supplied by the Onehunga Municipal Band, which has been specially engaged for the occasion. One of the features of the display will be the large number of set pieces which are to be fired. These will be in many varied designs. Some will be stationary, while others will be of a mechanical order, rapidly revolving and spreading showers of golden rain. This will have a spread of golden flame of over one hundred feet and makes a great spectacle, as. set at a great height, the golden shower falls to the ground. Mammoth rockets, aerial shells, batteries of Roman candles, nights of rising suns and many other fascinating pieces will also be seen.
