HALF-HANDLES DID IT
MAIN STREET BRAWL MAGISTRATE QUESTIONED When John Duncan, aged 47, and Augustus Boulton, aged 39, appeared at the Police Court today, Boulton asked questions testing the magistrate's knowledge of the world. THE accused were charged with beA having in a disorderly manner while drunk. The police evidence was that accused, who were both under the influence of liquor, had caused a disturbance in Karangahape Road. “Drunk?” said Boulton. “I had only four half-handles, and I gueas that couldn’t, make me drunk, now could it?” “I’m sure I don’t know,” said the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean. Boulton then went on to say that he had been struck by Duncan and had defended himself. “You would defend yourself, wouldn’t you?” he asked the magistrate. “I’m sure I don't know,” replied Mr. McKean. Boulton said he had treated Duncan well, and when he wanted more liquor he refused to give it to him. Duncan was fined £3, and Boulton £l.
