Crowds Flock to Russell Regatta
A RECORD ATTENDANCE fSpecial to THE SUJV.) RUSSELL, To-day. Immense interest is being taken in the annual regatta, which commence! at Russell this morning. A shifty north-east wind brought a smattering of rain, but the weather faired as ri.e day proceeded. The harbour front, verandahs of dwellings and the ; icr were black with huge crowds of .*isitors from all parts, special excursion trains bringing a record influx of spectators. Very satisfactory entries were received for all events and keen competition was a note wort! y feature. There was an overwhelm ins: nur.;be.of craft hailing from Auckland. Results are as follow: Speed Outboard Motor Championship of Dominion (open).—L. Palmer’s Miss Akarana, 1; E. Pa’mer’s T3aby Joy, 2; Hodgson Bros.’ Eviri. 3. All three boats were Auckland-owned. > Miss Jill Brooks, of Auckland, in the ’Op It, had bad luck at the st>rt. tb* \ engine being dislodged and lost over* j board.
