BEDROOM SLIPPERS ARE EASY TO MAKE

Comfortable slippers in various pretty colours may be made in loopedknitting, having the loops in the inside. To make them, procure sozs. of double Berlin wool, a pair of bone knitting needles, No. 9, and a pair of cork soles. Commence across the instep by casting on 27 stitches. Knit the first row plain. Second row: Insert the needle in the first stitch, as if about to knit; put the wool over the point of the needle and round the first finger of the left hand twice; then put the wool again over the needle, and knit the stitch in the usual manner, drawing all three threads of wool through; knit the other stitches in the same way. Third row: Plain knitting. Fourth row: Looped knitting as directed for the second row. but decrease in the middle of the row by knitting two stitches together. Fifth row: Plain. Repeat the last two rows till you have only 11 stitches on the needle, and cast off. This is the front of the slipper. Now, holding the looped side of the knitting toward you, pick up 12 of the cast-on stitches, knitting each stitch as you pick it up. Knit 1 row of looped knitting and 1 row of plain knitting alternately till you have a piece long enough to reach round the heel and to join on to the other side of the front. Next make a frill 1 round the ankle by casting on 4 stitches and knitting in the same manner a piece long enough to go round the top of the slipper; sew it on, so that the loops come on the outside. Now neatly bind the sole with a piece of narow ribbon, and sew the slipper on to it. Finish with a bow of satin ribbon on the instep. Make the second slipper to correspond.
