FORTUNE
Mrs. Isabel Harpur, of New Zealand, recently wrote “The Prisoner’s Release”—the last of the “Prisoner’s bong” series—and within three months 30,000 sheet-music copies of the song, 00,000 gramophone records, and a great number of music-rolls had been sold. Mrs. Harpur has already received a cheque for over £SOO, and sales are still booming. A HINT FOR THE COOK Sometimes the pastry at the bottom of jam tarts or custard pies becomes very heavy after cooking. To prevent this, brush the beaten white of an egg over the pastry before putting in the jam or custard. This makes it beautifully crisp, and none of it is wasted. The newest buttonhole vogue is a single camellia in tinted mother o' pearl; There is something very fascinating about its transparency of surface.
