THE MAUI POMARE

DEMONSTRATION TRIP (Special to THE SUN.) APIA, December 16. ! According to latest advice the new Government steamer Maui Pomare will be in commission in March next. The first voyage to the Islands will be in the nature of a demonstration trip in which the commercial and manufacturing associations of New Zealand will take part, under official guidance, to explore the prospects of increased trade between here and New Zealand. H is believed that the new vessel will have Auckland as the final port of departure, and will load with fruit and other produce from Apia and Niue for discharge in Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. So that the South Island will probably receive the bulk of the exports by the new route.

With the present disturbed state of the natives, however, the amount of Iruit which will be available for export is very problematical.
