WAIKATO RIVER FALLS
LOWEST LEVEL FOR YEARS “I have never ’ seen the Waikato River so low,” said a man who travels frequently between the Waikato and Auckland. ‘‘lt is two and a half feet lower than it has ever been before and the difference it makes is remarkable.” The slip beside the railway line near Taupiri. which is said to have been caused by the fall of the river, has been almost completely filled in by the per-manent-way repair staff. Until the dam fills at Arapuni the Waikato will not regain its normal level.
